The Timeless Edge

WELCOME ALL. This domain shall be a dynamo for generating ideas and content for my current artistic endeavors. This shall be a space for dabbling and dabblers alike. I am principally a writer of language and music, but other forms of media have been known to catch my fancy. I will begin this BLOG with a description of my most recent musical adventure: Zed Zebra's Zoological Project (MUSIC/THEATRE)

I am currently finishing "Part I: Dream of the ZOO" of what appears to be a triptych of works in the making. In this first installment, we travese a dreamscape of the main character, Zed Zebra.

a. THE BIRTH OF NIGHT MARES
The ZOO is operated by Pitt Viper, a man who mutates animals through experimentation. Viper is building an elite strike-force of mutant animals for his own sinister purposes (explored more in PART II). Zed, a zebra, appears to be an example of failure as his altered DNA structure appears instable and Pitt Viper kills the zebra and moves on to another victim.

b. BLACK MAGICK BABY
Gahura Nura, an augmented elephant witchdoctor under Viper's control, finds the remains of the zebra and witnesses a darkly magical event as the zebra reconstitutes into a biped necromancer and realizes what events have transpired. The music borrows from INDIAN musical modes and incorporates some expansive writing for the sitar and english horn.

c. WHAT OTHER ANIMALS?
Teaming up with Gahura, Zed concocts a takeover of the ZOO where ALL humans will be killed and raised into undead zombies to be held securely in the zoo cages. Zed also plans to free other animals and raise them into intelligent mythical counterparts (LIZARD becomes BASILISK, etc.) His own mystic evolution serves as a driving motivation. Up with the Animals, Down with the Humans.

d. FUCK YOU, LAZY HUMANS

Zed's black-metal hued ballad to his enemies.

e. THE ZOO PRINCIPLE

Zed elaborates his new philosophy of the ZOO to a group of recently MYTHtified creatures and rallies them together for support, instruction, and a saga of destruction.

f. RHAPSODY IN BLACK-AND-WHITE

"...and of pianoes he dreams
a rhapsody in black-and-white
in midnight most dense
notes transcend their staves."

An instrumental reprieve in the work that concludes with the "Supervision of the Cybernetic Space Raven--" a time-traveller from the outerspace strand of the work that will be detailed in PART III.

g. DREAM OF THE ZOO
i. ZOO in RUINS
ii. Zed's Zombie ZOO
iii. ZOO in Light
iv. ZOO of the NIGHT

In this part, we see four different possible future ZOOs.

h. Curtain Call: ZOOLOGICAL WARFARE HYMN

A laconic prelude to Part II that features the the least-used instrumental grouping in the work: strings.
